THE FIRST AERO JERSEY PROJECT WAS CALLED SPLIT SECOND When Castelli engineered the first aero jersey for road racing back in 2006, everyone thought we were crazy. Back then, aero was only for TTs. Performance clothing meant moisture management. And you could win the Tour de France with a baggy jersey that was little more than a polyester T-shirt. Even our aerodynamic consultants expected limited gains, so we named the jersey Split Second, though, like now, we thought even small gains were worth pursuing. In the end the gains were pretty substantial, and we completely revolutionized the look of the pro peloton. We're now on the sixth major revision of our aero jersey. Each generation has become more aero and better fitting. The Aero Race 6.0 benefits heavily from CFD analysis of wake flow in the riding position for fabric and seam placement. It also benefits from Team Ineos riders' feedback, as we've worked to make the jersey comfortable for their long hours of training and then racing in every possible weather condition. Version 6.0 is our most aero and most comfortable Aero Race Jersey yet. If you had to choose one jersey to do it all, this would be the one. The name kind of says it all: Endurance. For your long rides, a jersey needs to be able to do it all, offering comfort, carrying capacity, a wide temperature range with sun protection, and good aerodynamics. The first things you notice about this jersey are the pops of color. But take a closer look and you'll see how carefully it's been constructed. We start with great fabrics: the main body in ProSecco Micromesh, combined with mesh side panels for extra breathability and stretch. Then we use our Velocity Rev2 four-way-stretch fabric on the sleeves, providing unmatched fit and comfort while allowing us to leave a raw edge for even greater comfort. We use our drop-tail pocket design to place the pockets at the perfect height, and we finish it all with a YKK Vislon zipper that slides easier than any other. This jersey is made for those JRA rides. Just riding along. You're not aiming for new Strava records or to win the city-limit sprints, but you do want a jersey that's comfortable and looks great. The jersey has a neutral cut-not racy but also not flapping in the wind. But the high-stretch micro-pique fabric means it fits more shapes than a Castelli race jersey. There are lots of trail tees out there, but most seem to not really be made to ride in. Does gravel need a new dress code? maybe, but with fat tires and big-tubed bikes with bags on them, an aero jersey just doesn't look right. But why should you give up performance and comfort? that's the concept behind this jersey: all the performance of Castelli's best jerseys except the aerodynamics. First, we created a new fabric with leading Italian knitter Borgini. The lightweight fabric has a small horizontal stripe and a gorgeous soft hand. It maintains outstanding moisture management and ample horizontal stretch but has limited vertical stretch so your pockets don't sag. And it blocks 98% of uv rays. The jersey has a neutral fit to it: straighter in the body, extra space across the chest. Less drop from front to back. The design is clean and technical; even the chest stripe is embossed for tone-on-tone detailing. No more feeling self-conscious at your coffee stop. The name velocissima means "very fast" in Italian, and indeed there's a lot of speed in this jersey, even though it wasn't designed as a race jersey. It brings together three different fabrics for fit as well as comfort. The main jersey fabric is a soft 100% polyester micromesh with Castelli's prosecco wicking treatment to keep you dry. Side panels are in a stretch mesh for ventilation and improved fit. The sleeves are lifted directly from Castelli's pro race jersey, but in this case because the four-way-stretch fabric with raw-cut sleeve endings is as comfortable as it is aerodynamic. The velocissima jersey is not lacking in technical details, but it was also designed to look good. The fabrics are piece-dyed for rich color, and then they get a sublimated overprint for the tone-on-tone graphic over the shoulders.
